Cammy Day has resigned as leader of the City of Edinburgh Council amid allegations of inappropriate behavior towards Ukrainian refugees, prompting an investigation by Police Scotland.

Cammy Day announced his resignation on Monday, stating that ongoing commentary regarding his personal life was distracting from the council's important work. His departure follows allegations of inappropriate conduct, which are currently under investigation by Police Scotland.

The allegations surfaced after reports indicated that Day had communicated with two Ukrainian refugees through social media, inquiring about their sexual preferences and attempting to arrange meetings. One refugee expressed feeling pressured to respond due to Day's position.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar described the allegations as "deeply distressing" and confirmed that the party took immediate action upon learning of the claims. A spokesperson emphasized that all complaints are treated seriously and investigated thoroughly.

Calls for Day's resignation intensified, with SNP group leader Simita Kumar labeling the allegations "beyond shocking" and urging immediate suspension of Day's council privileges. The Scottish Conservatives also supported his resignation pending investigation.
